Why I am introducing tea at Sean Elder Therapies

If you’ve been with me on this journey, you’ll know that Sean Elder Therapies has always been about more than treatments. It’s about creating an environment where care feels intentional, where every detail matters. So, this next step might surprise you at first—but for me, it feels like a natural continuation of everything I’ve done so far.

Why Tea, and Why Now?

For years, I’ve worked with people carrying stress, tension, and disconnection from their own bodies. Much of what we do here in Guardbridge—whether on the treatment table or the yoga mat—is about slowing down, resetting the nervous system, and finding presence.

Tea, when done well, offers the same. It’s a ritual that invites pause, a sensory experience that can support both body and mind. That’s why I’m introducing a curated range of therapeutic teas at Sean Elder Therapies—not as a product on a shelf, but as part of the care we already provide.

A Thread That Runs Through Everything

My work hasn’t followed a straight line, but there’s always been a thread: a commitment to quality and to practices that help people feel more human.

In between nursing and therapeutic work, I ran a coffee shop—a dream I brought to life and ran singlehandedly for three years. That chapter led me into the world of tea and eventually to a role as Head of Blend Development, Tasting, and Training for a coffee roaster and tea company. During that time, I embarked on trained with the UK Tea Academy in London under Jane Pettigrew’s course: UK Tea Champion.

I left the role with the coffee and tea company because quality mattered more to me than profit. But my respect for tea never left. If anything, as I deepened my work in movement therapy and trauma-informed care, I began to see tea differently—not just as a drink, but as a therapeutic ritual that can support recovery, grounding, and nervous system health.

The Benefits of Tea, Backed by Research

Herbal and specialty teas have long been associated with wellbeing—and the evidence supports it for example:

  • Camomile can improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety symptoms (Phytomedicine, 2009).

  • Peppermint supports digestion and can ease symptoms of IBS (BMJ, 2014).

  • Liquorice root is known for its anti-inflammatory and stress-supportive properties (Phytotherapy Research, 2008).

  • Ginger reduces nausea and inflammation (American Family Physician, 2007).

  • Rooibos contains antioxidants that support cardiovascular health (Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2006).

These aren’t quick fixes. But elements, that as part of a lifestyle that values care, they make a difference.

What to Expect

The High Grade Specialty teas will be displayed in our movement therapy studio here in Guardbridge, just minutes from St Andrews and easily accessible from Cupar, Leuchars, and across North East Fife. You’ll find small glass jars you can open, smell, and explore; because choosing tea should feel sensory, not transactional. I am starting with 8 curated blends that lend themselves to the type of care, intentional practice and stillness I often speak about, or provide at the studio, whether that is on the mat, or in the treatment rooms.

My goal isn’t to sell lots of tea. It’s to help you carry the work we do together into your everyday life. The kind of care that starts on the treatment table, or the mat, and continues when you step back into your own space. The rituals that restore you. I’ll also be introducing tea-and-movement workshops—quiet sessions of intentional practice, shared with a warm cup of something restorative.

A Closing Thought

If you know Sean Elder Therapies, you know nothing we offer is gimmicky or rushed. These blends have been created with the same attention to detail, clinical integrity, and care that you’ll find in every treatment, class, and conversation here.

Thank you for continuing to trust me and move along with me on this path.

Sean
